25th Anniversary of Saugeen Shores - Better Together

Better Together Weekend

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Saugeen Shores and our community is celebrating! The 25th Anniversary Better Together weekend, took place August 9-11, 2024. Thank you to all volunteers, partners and sponsors who made this weekend possible, and to everyone who attended the events. To mark the anniversary, the Town of Saugeen Shores, with support from the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce, hosted a community time capsule project to capture local memories, photographs, and items commemorating the last 25 years since amalgamation. This endeavor was made possible by the generous donation of the locally crafted time capsule chest by Mayor Luke Charbonneau and family. The Time Capsule chest was closed at the 25th Anniversary Opening Ceremonies on August 10, 2024. The chest will be placed at the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre, to be re-opened in 25 years.

Driving Tours

In honour of the 25th Anniversary, the Municipal Heritage Committee is inviting the public to learn more about our community by introducing two new driving tours.

The Borders Tour takes participants on a 70km drive that follows the borders of Saugeen Shores. Along the way, participants visit points of interest that illustrate the Town’s vast cultural and environmental beauty.
The Better Together Tour is a 22 km drive that celebrates the community’s achievements by taking participants to sites created since amalgamation.

25th Anniversary Student Artwork Exhibition

Earlier this year, the Town invited local (Port Elgin and Southampton) students in grades 5 and 10 to participate in an “Art Competition” asking to use their creativity, through art, to depict “The Spirit of Living in Saugeen Shores.” The submissions will be photographed and digitally stored in the time capsule to commemorate the 25th Anniversary. The Town received submissions from St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Port Elgin, Ms. Angie Wilke’s grade 5/6 class.
